My daughter Jo just posted a link on her Facebook site about her fellow students' protest at the goody bags which are being handed out to freshers at York. (Stop YUSU Sexist Materials Distribution) Their primary complaint is that half the bags are pink and the other half blue. The blue bags (for boys, natch) contain a copy of FHM while the girly pink bags contain deodorant, moisturiser and - how bad is this - cellulite cream.

Just as disturbing is that the guys get a chocolate bar and full sized can of beans (whoa - how manly!) while the gals only get half a can. Both bags also contain a packet of instant mashed potato and powdered chicken sauce mix which doesn't send out great messages about the importance of healthy eating I think you'll agree. As the organisers of the protest put it:

"From a welfare point of view, the inclusion of unhealthy, stereotypical student foods such as instant mashed potato and baked beans undermines the recent YUSU drive to encourage healthy eating amongst students.

Hopefully red faces all round . . .
