Food better than sex, say VideoJug!

A video of how to make apple crumble is apparently the second most popular tutorial on the video website Videojug losing out narrowly to “How to kiss someone passionately”. In fact they say that food videos are more popular than the love and sex ones on the site (possibly because people are less embarrassed to watch a video of someone making a crumble than someone snogging. Or are reluctant to own up that they need any help in the kissing department)

Apparently viewings of crumble-making have recorded ‘a 100% surge’ each Sunday for the past month with similar rises in the viewings of other classic British recipes such as how to make Roast Beef, Roast Potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding.

If you’re tempted to tune in, a word of warning. The recipe makes the fatal error of telling you to add all the recommended 250g of sugar (quite a large amount anyway) to the apple rather than dividing it between the apple and the crumble. They also use Granny Smith apples which won't work as well as the traditional Bramleys. And the crumble won’t cook in the time recommended at the low oven temperature they’ve given. (Try my tried and tested recipe here)

The advantage of videos though is that they do give you a better idea of techniques like rubbing in than you can get from reading a recipe but I’d be more inclined to follow the instructions on the solidly reliable BBC website or on UK TV Food.
